To the Abela family,
So sorry to read about the passing of Joe. Although our children were not yet at St. Philip’s School when he was the principal there, I heard lots of good things about his time there. Thinking of you at this sad time.

I am truly devastated at the sad news of my cousin Joseph (Joe) Abela's passing. Our contacts were sparse, though Joe never failed to send a card and a sweet note every Christmas, and when Christmas 2025 came and went, and no card, I knew something was amiss. Our reciprocal greetings were always signed 'the other Joe' and for good reason.
I will miss Joe aplenty but I do have something to remember him by for as long as I live - a wooden bird hand carved by Joe and proudly displayed on my coffee table in the living room.

I am very sorry for your loss and send you my sincere sympathy. I have many wonderful memories of Joe. My favourite would be his school announcements over the PA. His commanding but heartfelt and passionate voice and addresses to the students and staff were always so special. I can still hear him in my happiest thoughts. What a great man.
On behalf of the many carvers with George Wickham's Carving Group, our thoughts and prayers. Joe was a good carver (e.g. his shore bird and maybe last painted carving), a colourful member of our group, and good guy. The Thursday night group I am sure will miss him. David Daugharty.
