Obituary of Dennis Richard Benest

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dennis at LHSC University Hospital. Beloved husband of Mary-Jean Vaughan-Benest. Dennis will be remembered and fondly missed by sons Alan (Pam deceased), Norman (Anne) and Roger (Ashlee) and Jean’s four daughters Bonnie (Bill) Neaves, Beverly (Dave) Thaler, MaryAnn (Fred) Varkaris and Jennifer (Alvin) Jesso. Predeceased by his first wife Valerie (Gibbs) 1988 and second wife Susan (Chick) 2002 and older siblings Walter (Ron) Benest, Dora (Funnell) and Ellen (Mears). Dennis was born in Balham and raised in the Worcester Park area of England. After marriage and emigrating to Canada he settled in St. Thomas and has lived in London the last thirty plus years. Dennis worked in various capacities with Loblaws for almost fifty years retiring from full-time as district manager for southwestern Ontario. Known for love of garden, travel, food and family and his subtle dry British humour more than once has he been referred to as the consummate gentleman. His family would like to thank Dr. Berry and his palliative care team of wonderful doctors and nurses at London Health Sciences for their compassion and guidance over the last few weeks. A celebration of life and interment as per his wishes will be announced and occur at a later date. Cremation has taken place, and condolences may be made at www.londoncremation.com For Dennis Dear beloved sir, we saw you sinking We watched you fade away Our hearts were almost broken You fought so hard to stay But when we saw you sleeping So peacefully from pain We could not wish you back To suffer so again God saw you growing tired When a cure was not to be So, he closed his arms around you And whispered “come to me” You did not deserve what you went through And so, he gave you rest Gods garden must be beautiful For he only takes the best It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone For part of us went with Dennis To God’s Garden, Your new home
