Dear Catherine and Wyn, I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. Bob was always so very kind and collegial, always showing a respectful curiosity about the work of others, no matter how junior. I doubt he ever had any idea how many historians he influenced, including me.

Dear Wyn, Catherine and family: I was saddened to learn of Bob's passing and please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. Bob was a giant in the study of the history of education and his work inspired and influenced me and countless scholars and historians. So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Wyn, Catherine and family - we have all lost a true gentleman, scholar, and very fine person. He and Geoff Milburn drew me to CHEA by way of the HSST in the 1980s.
