Dear Catherine and Wyn, I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. Bob was always so very kind and collegial, always showing a respectful curiosity about the work of others, no matter how junior. I doubt he ever had any idea how many historians he influenced, including me.

Dear Wyn, Catherine and family: I was saddened to learn of Bob's passing and please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. Bob was a giant in the study of the history of education and his work inspired and influenced me and countless scholars and historians. He will be missed but I hope knowing how much he meant to so many will provide some comfort at this difficult time.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Wyn, Catherine and family - we have all lost a true gentleman, scholar, and very fine person. He and Geoff Milburn drew me to CHEA by way of the HSST in the 1980s. I always looked forward to our annual chats and discussions over the years. What fine example he set for all of us. Paul W Bennett
