Obituary of John Frederick Roe

Peacefully, at St. Joseph’s Hospice in London, surrounded by his loving family. John was the beloved husband of Judy, dear father of Michael, father-in-law of Judy, and cherished grandfather of three wonderful grandchildren, Emma, Grace, and John. John will also be lovingly remembered by his sister Susan, and his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews in the Roe and Blimke families. In the 1960’s and ‘70’s, John worked in the pulp and paper industry in England and South Africa. He returned to Canada where he had a lengthy career in the nuclear industry. In his early years, John was a private pilot who spent much of his free time dancing the skies in his small craft “joining the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds”. He enjoyed the great outdoors, especially at his home on the Ottawa River and had wonderful memories of his numerous fishing trips up North with his family and friends. He was a self-taught musician, playing piano and guitar, and took a keen interest in the African Djembe drum. He cherished the hours spent with his “other family” at L’Arche most Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons, volunteering his talents in any way he could. By request, cremation has taken place and a family gathering will take place later in the spring to celebrate his life. Condolences can be made through www.londoncremation.com. Donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Joseph’s Hospice of London, L’Arche London or a charity of your choice. John and his family were very fortunate to have the care of Dr. Katarine Andrejevic and the exceptional team at St. Joseph’s Hospice. We want to thank them for their compassion and support. We were truly blessed.
