Obituary of Johannes Maria Van Der Steen "John Vandersteen"

Passed away peacefully in Strathroy, surrounded by his Family on Saturday February 28, 2026 at the age of 93. Beloved Husband to Irene Vandersteen. Loving Father to Valerie Dunlop (Husband Randy), Mary Vandersteen. Cherished Grandfather to Stefanyie Hamilton (Husband Elliott), Tabitha Lapointe (Husband Donny), Caleb Dunlop (Joey Baltare). Adored Great Grandfather to Corban Hamilton, Bailey Lapointe, Aviyah Hamilton, Elijah Hamilton, Brianna Lapointe, Jory Hamilton, Niyah Hamilton, Shayah Hamilton, Jude Dunlop, Liam Dunlop. John was born in Oss, Netherlands in 1933. He was the youngest of 13 children. He immigrated to Woodstock, Ontario, Canada with the LOVE HIS LIFE, Irene Vandersteen in 1958.He loved to show the beauty of Canada to Maya and Jacques Verburg and other family members from the Netherlands. He loved his Brothers Family (Nieces & Nephews) here in Canada, He loved his Sister-in-Law and Family in Quebec, as well as dear Friends from Otterville. John worked in the trades as an electrician who loved straight lines. Retirement brought new adventures and friendships in Texas. He will be deeply missed as our PATRIARCH and lovingly remembered for his intelligence, integrity, optimism and HIS SENSE of HUMOUR. His memory will live in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. We would like to thank the medical community. The doctors and nurses care and especially John (PSW) whose care helped him walk again. We are respecting his wishes to not have a funeral.
