Obituary of John Harold Heffernan

Peacefully, at home with his tribe. We announce the passing of John Harold Heffernan (Heffie), in his 84th year on March 6, 2026. Heffie was predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley, of 59 years and his grandson CJ. He leaves behind many cherished memories with his two daughters Ann and Karen, his son-in-law Claude, his grandchildren Justine (Troy), Jasmine (Justin), Austin (Taylor) and Noel (Samantha) and his great-grandchildren Georgina, Asher, and Valencia, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. As well as sister-in-law Darlene, who cared for him till the end, sister-in-law Mamie and many nieces and nephews who he adored, teased and loved. He was known to all as Papa and loved with all his heart. Heffie worked for many years at Multi Fittings, with his best friends Gary & Amanda who would often visit him with treats. Heffie was known for his jokes and his love of the casino, which he enjoyed up till his last days. He loved travelling back home to Cape Breton Island as often as he could. Many neighbours will recall Heffie happily riding his bright red tractor around the neighbourhood, always ready to wave and stop for a chat. We would like to thank the Dialysis Department at LHSC for their kindness throughout his 2.5 year journey, it was noticed. A celebration of life will be held March 22, 2026 from 12-4 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 317 at 311 Oakland Ave for John & Shirley to celebrate their life together and say good-bye.
