Obituary of David Paul Nelligan

Peacefully, with his family by his side at the Dearness Home, in his 83rd year, we announce the passing of our beloved father David "Paul" Nelligan. He will be deeply missed by his children, son David, daughter Laura (Davide), and daughter Darcie, of London and Sarnia, Ontario, and by his loving sister Sylvia (Bob) of Brighton, Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Hilda Nelligan. Our father was a man of great heart and quiet resilience, paired with a famously stubborn streak. He disliked being fussed over and would never dream of inconveniencing anyone—asking for help was simply not in his nature. He was kind, funny, and deeply appreciative of life’s simple pleasures: watching construction work, sitting in the sun, feeding the birds, and summer bonfires, to name a few. Over the years, he faced significant health challenges with strength and determination, maintaining a content outlook despite the discomfort and hardships he endured. In his final days, our family found immense comfort in the exceptional care he received at Dearness. The compassion shown by the nurses and PSWs spoke volumes about the impact he had—they went above and beyond to support him and our family, sharing stories and offering heartfelt goodbyes at his bedside. We take comfort in imagining him now at peace—perhaps enjoying an icy cold pint or a rum and coke, gazing out over the lake, reflecting on a life well lived, and reunited with cherished friends and family. A private family memorial will be held this summer at his favourite place in Haliburton, Ontario. Expressions of sympathy may be made online at www.londoncremation.com. We extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at Dearness Home Services for their genuine care, compassion, and kindness over the years, and to London Cremation Services for their dignified and thoughtful support in those final moments taking great care of our Father’s final journey from his home.
