Obituary of Robert Joseph Haas

Robert (Bob) Haas passed away peacefully on August 18th, 2026 in the loving company of his immediate family. Bob would tell you he led a charmed life. From his youth in Poplar Hill and London West, to his days as a mechanic at International Harvester and then sales for General Motors Diesel Division, to his life as an armchair farmer in Port Albert, and his return to London to continue the roles he took most seriously – beloved friend, uncle and grampa. Bob’s wife Marianne (nee Chapman), his son Rob, daughter-in-law Christie, and grandchildren Alyssa and Evan miss him very dearly; as do sister Helen (May), brother-in-law Ted (and wife Ruby) Chapman, brother-in-law Jim (and wife Carlyn) Chapman, all the Chapman and May nieces and nephews, and his many close friends. Bob is predeceased by Sister Marie (May), brothers-in-law John and Bill May, and many close friends. We will always hold close our memories of cottage time and backyard BBQ’s with rocket launchers & giant kites, rides on Thing 1 & Thing 2, story-telling, sailing & canoeing on Lake Huron & the Maitland River, building the yellow hot rod, chocolate cake for breakfast, and fresh strawberries for lunch. We will do our very best to live by the many lessons he taught us and to live without regret, as he advised us all to do. We know Grampa is now enjoying a farmers’ sausage, a cold drink, a nice cigar and a butter tart with beloved friends and family – and undoubtedly regaling the group with his trademark humor and storytelling! Thank you to all those who provided such compassionate support to Bob and Marianne in the past few months. Cremation has taken place, a private interment at Poplar Hill Cemetery will be held at a later date.
