Rod Harle

Obituary of Rod Harle

Suddenly, at home, on December 25, 2023, in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Mary Helen. Dear father of Annora (Stephen) and Douglas both of London. Loving grandfather to Courtland (Jamie Hofmann) Gilliam of Edmonton and Catelyn (Michael) MacLeod of London. Great-grandfather of Harrison, Hendrik, Colborne and Broderick. Predeceased by parents James Alfred Harle (Constance) of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, sister Alison (Bruce) Easson of Toronto and brother Graham Harle of Edmonton. Rod emigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 13. Studious by nature, he earned his doctorate in genetics from Washington State University. His academic career was primarily with University of Toronto (Erindale Campus) and Western University. Rod rekindled a childhood fascination with clocks to run an antique clock restoration business for many years post-retirement. When he wound that up, he put equal effort into two other childhood passions, fly fishing in local rivers and streams, and racing on regional ponds the model sailboats he built from scratch, achieving a decent win record considering his advanced years. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life with family and friends will take place in London sometime this spring. Expressions of sympathy and to the London Health Sciences Foundation's Orthopaedic Care fund www.lhsf.ca/campaign/orthopaedic-care, would be appreciated and may be made through London Cremation Services 519-672-0459 or online at www.londoncremation.com Very special thanks to Cst. D. McInnis of LPS.
