Charlie was a kind and generous man and a great Kiwanian. He was a Kiwanis member for almost 45 years and our club was grateful for his contributions to our service work and fundraising.
. I always enjoyed visiting Charlie and Jean in their home and for many years we sold Christmas cakes on behalf of Kiwanis at Inspirit residence when Charlie and Jean lived there.

One of my earliest memories of "dad" since I met him in 1979 was his frequent recitation of "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny". As physicists, it became our inside joke about biologists, meaning that we were superior to them since this well-sounding theory had long since been debunked.
Dad also often recited verse from his school days to emphasize a point at appropriate moments. I was impressed with his memory and wish that I had taken note of these passages.
Even into his nineties he occasionally reminded me that "sine squared x plus cosine squared x equals one" as if this would solve the world's problems! When he started repeating himself I would probe with deeper questions to learn more about his past instead of being bored.
He was a very astute, stock market prognosticator: he accurately predicted every single bear market in his lifetime, not to mention dozens that never happened!
Dad was a master repairman and improvisor with a firm commitment to functionality over appearance.
I always thought of him as a true gentleman who was polite and respectful to everyone he met.
Charlie was a man of strong, agnostic faith despite all attempts to persuade him otherwise. May we all be so dedicated to our convictions.

We at the Secrets of Radar Museum were deeply saddened to learn of Charlie Jackson’s passing. Charlie was a founder of this museum, and for many years he was a regular presence giving tours and answering questions. Intelligent, articulate, warm, and jovial, Charlie delighted in telling stories of his time as a radar mechanic and instructor during the Second World War, and his memory for technical radar and electronic specifications was exceptional. He was a teacher at heart and his passion for sharing knowledge was evident no matter who he spoke to. Charlie’s final visit to the museum was in 2018 when he gave a talk to a large group of Girl Guides who sat in rapt attention (photo included). We owe Charlie a great debt of gratitude for all the time he put in to make SORM the place it is today, and for his willingness to share his experiences. Our sincere condolences to his family, especially his wife Jean, who often accompanied him to the museum and, although she must have heard his stories dozens of times, never lost her enthusiasm and always encouraged him to talk more.

My husband, Ralph Devereux, also served in Radar during WW2. He was stationed in England , then in Centralia. He probably met Charlie in one of these places.
It was so special when they met again in Windsor in 1962 when Charlie was Vice President of St. Clair College and Ralph was founding Principal of Windsor Teachers' College. Charlie and Jean were near neighbors. On retirement we both moved to London where in later years we reconnected at Senior Alumni.
Jean and Family please accept my most sincere sympathy. Charlie was a fine man.

Sharing a memory of the time Dad took me to the Windsor train station so he could meet Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. I think he wanted to talk to him about the value of technical schools such as WOIT. This was a spontaneous trip, we must have been already out on a Saturday excursion, perhaps to Canadian Tire and some office time for him at WOIT.
I was tickled when a photo turned up in the newspaper! I was sporting my favorite red hoodie and the same hairdo I have now.
Mom was less than pleased when she saw Dad was wearing his usual Saturday red plaid shirt complete with a tear in the elbow.
But Dad had his priorities and on this day sartorial elegance took a back seat to his passion for communicating the value of technical education. Love you Dad!

I will never forget the lessons you have taught me Grandpa. The hours we spent discussing politics, history and philosophy I will never forget. I have learned so much from you on what it means to be a man of principle, commitment and excellence. Love you always. Until our next meeting. Xoxo Chris.

I have so many fond memories of my grandpa. I will never forget the hundreds of recorded (and catalogued) movies you had for us to watch. How many other 12 year olds knew who the three stooges were?? You always made sure we (grandchildren) felt loved and always told us how proud you were. I will continue to make you proud, grandpa!
Love,
Heather

TO DAD, the last few years have been a challenge for you without Mom beside you to keep you on track. Dementia is never easy to deal with and I am glad you are not fighting it anymore.
The picture of you and Mom at the Valentines Day party 2020 just before Covid is a favorite for me and I am glad to have been there to share those special moments with you and Mom. Thanks to the staff at Parkwood for their kind attention especially during the challenges of covid.
