William Johnson

Obituary of William Kraul Johnson

It is with profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing on Sunday May 15,2022 at Parkwood Veterans Facility in London, ON. Born June 14,1924 in Westminster Twp., ON. He gave his all to reach his 98th birthday, but fell short by a month. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Leonora (nee Woodcroft), his parents Soren and Ahnes and his brother Andy. Loving father of six children, Bill (Cathy), Richard (Wendie), Randy, Lynn, Doug and Lisa Thornout (nee Johnson) (Jim). He has seven grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Bill assisted his wife Nora in creating a place for people with brain injuries (Dale home) after his son Randy’s unfortunate car accident and consequent brain injury. He served in the Air Force as air-crew (pilot). After the war he helped with the family grocery business. He spent most of his life as a butcher at Dominion Grocery store. He met his wife Nora while delivering meat to her family’s home. Bill was an avid golfer and bird watcher and loved to feel the sun on his face. He loved to feed the birds, both when at home and at Parkwood. The physician heals, nature makes well. His biggest joy was spending time with his newest great-grandson, one year old Lukas, who brought such joy and smiles to all in the Veterans Ward at Parkwood. Bill lived his almost 98 years of life fully and was in good mind and spirit right up until the end. When we would say goodbye, his parting quip would always be, “In the meantime – Have fun!” A very special thank you to the entire staff of Parkwood, 3rd floor Kent for their kindness, patience and compassionate care. Bill will be missed dearly. Cremation has taken place as per his wishes there will be no funeral. In celebration of his life, throw a steak on the barbie, mix up a bloody ceasar (make that a double) SKOAL! In lieu of flowers as an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Dale Brain Injury Services. Condolences can be made through www.londoncremation.com.
