Obituary of Larry Alfred Shortt

With heavy hearts, we are devastated to announce that Larry Alfred Shortt passed away at home with family at his side in the early hours of Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the age of 74. He was a fighter and a warrior who loved life. He battled cancer with every ounce of his energy and positive attitude for 9 long years. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife and best friend, Gloria (nee Ingram), and his favourite sister, Valerie McKean of Collingwood. Dearly loved by his children, Joshua Shortt (Kim) of Collingwood, Meghan Shortt of London, and Morgan Shortt (Kevin), of Milton. Beloved and cherished step-father of Sherry Rivest of London and Darren Rivest of Nova Scotia. Proud grandfather of Samantha, Quin, Jude, Arlo, Aiden and Cian. Daddy to fur baby Ginger. Brother-in-law to Gerri Butler (the late Ron) of North Bay, Sandy Armstrong (Terry) of Wallaceburg, Melvin Ingram (Patricia) of London and many others. Adored uncle, cousin and friend to many. Larry has been reunited with his parents, Leia and Lloyd Shortt and his brother, Ronald (Ron) Shortt. Larry didn’t have time to grieve the recent loss of his brother Ron, but it is comforting to know that they are now together again playing guitar with their parents and making each other laugh. Larry enjoyed people, the outdoors, and the bright, hot sunshine. His pride and joy besides his wife and children, was their Pequod boat and all the friends and fishing that came with it. The most important thing in life to Larry was his family and laughter, whether it was around a campfire or at the dinner table. He was always willing to drop what he was doing to help anyone out. He was a kind, generous, intelligent, patient, and gentle man willing to teach anyone anything that he knew. If you needed anything fixed, advice, a pep talk or a problem solved, you went to Larry and he always knew what to do and say. We don’t know who to turn to now and we all feel an unimaginable emptiness without him. We pray that he is met with fair waters and a wind that will fill the sails on his heavenly journey. We will forever miss you and love you. Rest in peace our beautiful, smiling MARVELOUS Larry. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
