Obituary of Anthony Emmet Lecompte

On Thursday, July 18th, surrounded by his loving family, friends and staff, following a courageous battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s, Emmet peacefully passed away at Veteran’s Care, Parkwood Hospital where he was exceptionally cared for over the past two years. Steadfast, devoted and loving husband for 54 years to his best friend, his Joanie-Babe, Joan (Lawson) Lecompte. Cherished father to his two children Daryl Lecompte (Kim), Comox, B.C., and Diane Lecompte Elgersma (Mark), London, ONT. Proud and passionate Poppy to his four beloved grandchildren Alicia and Breanna Lecompte (Comox, BC) and Taylor and Taryn Elgersma (London, ONT). Emmet became a great grandfather on July 16th 2024 to Camellia Rose Antoine (Comox, BC). Survived by his sister Janice (Ottawa), sisters-in-law Donna Young, Trish Monaghan, Val Mills and Wendy Lecompte and his brother-in-law Keith Lawson. Predeceased by his parents Henry Sr. and Marie Lecompte and his brother Henry George Lecompte. Emmet started his professional career in the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 16 in 1963 in Montreal and he was posted to CFB Petawawa in 1966. He then joined the London Police Force in September 1971 where he served for 32 years, ending his career as a Sgt. Throughout his career he worked in many departments, but his proudest accomplishment was being a co-founder of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) in 1992. Emmet’s mindset was always service to others whether it was volunteering with Canadian Blood Services, Parkwood Hospital Complex Care, Veteran’s Care and Crimestoppers, to name but a few. Although he thought he didn’t want to be away from home too long, when he travelled, he enjoyed it immensely with his very good friends, trips to Disney with his kids and grandkids and tropical vacations with his Joanie-Babe and anyone else who liked to tag along. Emmet’s faith journey developed over the past 25 years when he was inspired to join the Colborne St. United Church where Rev David Carrothers supported him in helping him understand the love Jesus Christ has for us all. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at West Park Church – 955 Gainsborough Road, London. Visitation Monday July 29th 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., funeral memorial service 1:00 p.m. reception to follow.
