Obituary of Marilyn Simpson

On the morning of January 4, 2025 Marilyn Ann Simpson (Whyle) died peacefully at her home in London with the assistance of MAID https://www.dyingwithdignity.ca/end-of-life-support/get-the-facts-on-maid/ and the love and support of her children by her side. Born in Toronto in 1933 and before settling in London in the early ‘80s, the Whyles settled in Brighton, ON. When Marilyn married and began to raise her own family, Beamsville, St. Catharines, Dorchester and Madoc were the towns they called home. Throughout Marilyn’s life she always had an ‘open door’ policy and literally left her doors unlocked. There was always room at the table for another plate or two. In the early 90’s and up until 2016 Marilyn hosted international students. Once the word got out about what a wonderful place Marilyn’s was to stay, she was never without a student and sometimes two. The close relationships that were forged have remained to this day. Giving back to the community was important to Marilyn and over the years she was involved with many non profits in the city. Professionally, Marilyn had a successful career in general insurance, retiring in 2001 at age 69 Marilyn was pre deceased by her parents Kathleen Whyle (Griffiths) and Jack Whyle and her first born daughter Cynthia Jane (age 14). Marilyn is survived by her children Sandra (Rod), Tracey (Nelson), Scott (Kate), John (Jodi), her 9 wonderful grandchildren and their partners - Melissa (Devin), Adam (Candice), Lesley (James), Christopher (Angela), Rachel (Tommy), Amanda (Brian), Nicole (Dylan), Dylan (Janessa), Wesley (Shelby) and her adored 16 great-grandchildren. Marilyn also leaves her much loved sister and brother and sister-in-law, Jane Lever (Whyle) and John Whyle (Paula) and their families. Marilyn was in her 92nd year A celebration of life will take place in the warmer weather and the date will be shared. Marilyn’s ashes will join her daughter Cindy’s and be interred at the Dorchester Union Cemetery at that time.
