Obituary of Maria Po Yee Ng

Maria Po Yee Ng passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 20, 2024 from long-term pulmonary disease. Born Maria Lau in Hong Kong on May 26, 1950, she attended Sacred Heart High School and graduated from nursing school in Hong Kong. She did further nursing studies in psychology and midwifery and practiced in London, England for a year before moving to Toronto in 1974 to join her sisters. After qualifying, she worked at Toronto Western Hospital for 2 years. She met Derek Ng of Hong Kong and they were married in Montreal on August 21, 1976 and relocated to Sarnia. In Sarnia, Maria worked for a time in nursing homes before joining Bluewater Health Hospital in 1980 working in the Internal Medicine Ward for her entire career, retiring in 2015. Her nursing skills and work ethic were recognized by doctors and colleagues and she was chosen to mentor nursing students. They also love her as a kind and generous friend. Maria and Derek loved to travel, having visited more than 50 countries. Angkor Wat in Cambodia and the Galapagos were her recent favorites. In 2019, Maria moved to London, Ontario for access to better medical facilities and care and was attended by several medical specialists. Maria would like to acknowledge the care of Dr. Mura and Dr. Barra for the last years, and also helpers Jody and Lisa, who cared for her near the end. Maria was married to Derek for 48 years. She worked hard and lived a good life. She had many good friends in Sarnia and around the world. In her last month, her roommate even commissioned a special mass for her in Sydney, Australia. She will be missed. Besides her husband Derek, Maria is survived by sisters and sisters-in-law Teresa, Bernadette, Josephine, Jacqueline, and Kathy. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Ken, Ron, and Gary; nephews Ryan and Kurtis; nieces Kirsten, Kaitlyn, Charmaine, Beatrice, and Sonya; great nephews Dresden, Levin, and TJ; and great nieces Gabby, Naomi, and Sabrina. According to her wishes, she will be cremated and her remains will be placed near her parents. She insisted on no funeral or memorial. She is now peacefully in God's loving arms.
